The Grand Blanc City Fire Department welcomed families to its annual open house, capping Fire Prevention Week with the theme “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”
Lt./Fire Marshal Christopher Cates shared safety tips and materials, stressing the need to handle and store lithium-ion batteries properly to reduce fire hazards.
Attendees could sign up for free smoke alarm installations, promoting safer homes across the area.
Cates, a certified car seat technician, also educated parents on car seat installation and provided emergency replacements when needed.
Families enjoyed snacks, games, and hands-on activities, such as trying on firefighter gear and receiving coloring books and kiddie helmets—exciting treats for young residents like Addie Jones.
The Grand Blanc Township Fire Department postponed its open house to coincide with the spring opening of a new Dort Highway fire station, part of a $24 million improvement project led by Scott Bennett and Robert Burdette. The project will boost emergency response—all with no tax increase.
Fire safety and community outreach remain top priorities as these new resources take shape.
